Questions answered

If you have not flown from Manchester for a while, the biggest change is that Terminal 1 is gone. It closed in March 2026 after more than 60 years, as part of the airport's long transformation programme. These are the questions our customers ask us most about it.

What changed

Has Manchester Airport Terminal 1 closed?

Yes. Terminal 1 closed in March 2026, and the airport now runs from Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. The building first opened in 1962.

Which terminal do flights use now?

Most airlines now use the much bigger, rebuilt Terminal 2. Terminal 3 is mainly used by Ryanair. Your airline app or booking shows the terminal next to your flight.

What is happening to the old Terminal 1 building?

The airport is using the space to expand Terminal 3 as part of its transformation programme. Expect some building work and signs that change while that happens.

Your trip

My old booking says Terminal 1. What should I do?

Check the latest details in your airline app or with your tour operator, as flights that used Terminal 1 have moved. Then update the terminal in your FindCab booking, or add your flight number and we will check it for you.

Does the closure change drop-off and pick-up?

The idea is the same: a short drop-off zone by each terminal and pick-ups from the terminal car parks. The roads lead to different places for Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, so tell us which one you need.

Is the train and tram station still open?

Yes. The Station serves both terminals through covered walkways, with trains and Metrolink trams into Manchester.

Prices

Does it cost more to go to Terminal 2 or Terminal 3?

No. Our fixed price is the same for either terminal from the same address. You see the full price before you pay.

Why the airport closed Terminal 1

Manchester Airport has spent around ten years transforming its terminals. The rebuilt Terminal 2 is far larger than before and now handles most passengers, which meant the old Terminal 1 building was no longer needed for flights. Its space is being reused to make Terminal 3 bigger.

What to tell us when you book

Choose Manchester Airport and your terminal, or simply add your flight number. If you are not sure which terminal you need, add the flight number and we will check before the day. The driver goes to the right building either way.
