New Year's Eve in Manchester 2026: how to get home safely
New Year's Eve is the hardest night of the year to get home.
What's on
Every year the hardest part of New Year's Eve is getting home after midnight. Demand for cars peaks just after the bells, and public transport gets crowded. A licensed private hire taxi booked in advance takes the stress out of it.

Travel tips
- Book your car home early in December; New Year's Eve fills up first.
- Only get into the car you booked. A private hire car can only carry passengers who have pre-booked.
- Check the driver's name and car in your confirmation before getting in.
- Keep your phone charged and stay with your group until the car arrives.

Why New Year's Eve is different
Everyone wants to leave at the same time, just after midnight. Cars that are booked in advance are planned around that rush, which is why booking early matters more on New Year's Eve than on any other night of the year.
Staying safe
Only get into a car you have booked. Your confirmation shows the driver's name and car, so check them before you get in. Licensed private hire drivers carry council ID, and you can ask to see it. If you are travelling alone, share your booking with a friend and let them know when you are home.
Flying over New Year
If you are flying in or out over New Year, add your flight number and we track it. See our Christmas flights guide for more on festive airport transfers.
