Planning wedding transport in Manchester and Cheshire
Wedding cars are about more than the bride’s arrival.
Wedding days run to a tight timetable, and transport is one of the things that can quietly go wrong. We do wedding work across Manchester and Cheshire, from short hops between a church and a hotel to minibus shuttles for guests at a country venue. Here is what we have learned about getting it right.
Work out who needs moving
Most couples think first about the car for the bride or the couple. That matters, but there are usually more journeys than that. Make a list of everyone who needs transport and when:
- the couple, or each half of the couple, to the ceremony
- parents, bridesmaids and best men
- the couple from the ceremony to the reception
- older relatives or anyone who can't drive or walk far
- guests between the ceremony and the reception, if they are at different places
- guests going back to hotels at the end of the night
- anyone arriving from the airport or the station
Once you have the list, you can see which journeys need a special car and which just need a reliable, comfortable vehicle.
Cars for the couple and family
For the main journeys, many couples choose an executive car. Our Mercedes S-Class (or similar) is the most comfortable car we have and looks right on the day. The Mercedes E-Class (or similar) is also popular. For the bridal party, the Mercedes V-Class executive people carrier (or similar) has room for several people and dresses without anyone getting squashed.
We are a private hire firm, not a specialist wedding car company. We don't offer vintage cars. What we offer is clean, modern cars, smart drivers and a fixed price.
Moving your guests
Guest transport is often the part people forget, and it is where a minibus really helps. Common examples:
- Church to reception. If the ceremony and the reception are at different places, a shuttle saves guests driving, parking and getting lost.
- Hotel to venue. If lots of guests are staying at a hotel in town, a minibus can bring them to the venue and take them back at the end.
- The end of the night. Late at night, getting home from a country venue can be hard. A booked shuttle at a set time makes it easy, and nobody needs to drive.
Our 8 seater minibus and 16 seater bus work well for this. For bigger weddings we can send more than one vehicle or do several runs.
Timings
Weddings almost always run late at some point. Build some room into the plan:
- Leave enough time between the ceremony and the reception for photos, which always take longer than planned.
- For guest shuttles, set a departure time and tell guests clearly. A "last bus" time helps.
- Saturday traffic in Manchester and Cheshire can be busy, especially on summer weekends and near football grounds on match days. Check the fixtures if your venue is near Old Trafford or the Etihad.
- Give us a contact on the day who isn't the couple. The best man, a parent or the venue coordinator is ideal.
Venues
Manchester and Cheshire have a huge range of venues: city centre hotels, old mills, country houses and barns. Some of the rural ones are up long lanes or have narrow gateways. When you book, tell us the venue name, the exact entrance and anything unusual about access. If you are booking a 16 seater bus, check with the venue that it can get in, or ask us to.
In the city centre, parking near a church or registry office can be tricky. We will drop you as close as we can and wait nearby.
Hourly hire or separate journeys?
For the couple and the main family car, hourly hire often works best. The car and driver stay with you for the time you book, so you are not waiting for a car to come back. For guest shuttles, separate journeys at set times are usually simpler and better value. We can help you work out which suits your day.
Guests travelling from further away
If you have guests flying in, we can collect them from Manchester Airport or any other airport, and from Piccadilly or any other station. Add their flight numbers and we will follow the flights. Meet & greet (£5) is a nice touch for guests who don't know Manchester.
After the wedding, we can take guests back to the airport or station, or home if they live in the region.
Children at weddings
If page boys, flower girls or younger guests are travelling with us, add child or booster seats when you book. They are free. Tell us the ages so the driver brings the right ones.
Booking and paying
Book as early as you can. Summer weekends get busy, and you want to know your transport is sorted. Online bookings need at least eight hours' notice, but for a wedding we suggest booking weeks or months ahead and calling us to talk it through. Every journey has a fixed price, so you know the total before the day.
We take card only. You can pay online when you book or by card to the driver. For a big wedding with several vehicles, call us and we can arrange it all in one go.
A wedding transport checklist
- List everyone who needs moving and when.
- Decide which journeys need an executive car and which need a minibus.
- Check venue access for larger vehicles.
- Add plenty of time between ceremony and reception.
- Set a clear time for guest shuttles at the end of the night.
- Give us a contact on the day.
- Book early.
On the day itself
A few days before the wedding, we will confirm the timings and the addresses with you. On the day, the driver arrives a little early at the first pickup. If anything changes, such as a later start or an extra passenger, ring us straight away and we will adjust.
