Tips for travelling to the airport with your family
Practical tips for getting a family to the airport calmly: transport, packing, timing, snacks and documents.
Getting a family ready for a holiday is exciting and a little chaotic. Most of the stress is avoidable with a bit of preparation.
Sort the transport early
Book your airport car in advance so it is one thing you do not need to think about on the day. Tell us how many people and how many bags you have, and we will suggest a suitable car. Child seats are free; just ask when you book.
Pack smart
- Use packing cubes to keep clothes sorted by person.
- Spread heavy items across bags to avoid overweight fees.
- Keep a spare set of clothes for each child in the hand luggage.
- Put passports, tickets and chargers somewhere easy to reach.
Allow extra time
Children slow everything down. Add a buffer to your normal timings for the journey, the bag drop and security. Tell us your flight number and we track it, which helps if your plans change.
Keep children occupied
Bring snacks and drinks they like, and a small bag of new colouring books, stickers or a favourite toy for waiting time. Download films and games before you leave in case the signal is poor.
Organise the documents
The night before, check passports and visas, boarding passes, travel insurance details and booking confirmations. If you are travelling alone with children, check whether you need a consent letter.
Choose a car with room
An estate or a people carrier gives you space for children, a pushchair and suitcases without anyone squeezed in. For bigger families we have 8 and 16 seater buses. See our fleet, or read our guide to travelling with lots of luggage.
When you are ready, book online. The price is fixed when you book.
